The first part of the tour takes place outside the medina and includes:

• Royal Palace Gate (Bab Boujloud area): View the impressive gates of the King dating back to the Marinid period, adorned with marble, copper and mosaics.
• Jewish Quarter (Mellah): Stop for photos in the historic Mellah (built 1438), the first Jewish quarter in Morocco, historically located near royal residences for protection.
• Ibn Danan Synagogue: Visit one of Fes’s oldest synagogues (17th century), notable for its simple yet captivating wooden ceiling and plasterwork. The synagogue was included on the 1996 World Monuments Watch List.
• Jnan Sbil Garden, Borj Nord & Bab Boujloud: Enjoy a breath of fresh air in the peaceful garden, and see Borj Nord and the famous Blue Gate.

Afternoon — Inside the medina: Historical & cultural highlights

• 13:30–14:30: After lunch, continue wandering the medina’s narrow alleys with your guide to reach the major historic sites:

  • Madrasa Bou Inania: A masterpiece of Marinid architecture (built AD 1351–56), once an important center for religious education and scholarship, renowned for its decoration and architectural details.
  • Chouara Tanneries: Visit the largest and oldest tannery in Africa, where leather is still processed using traditional methods and natural dyes—an unforgettable sensory experience.
  • Nejjarine Museum of Wooden Arts & Crafts: Housed in an 18th‑century funduq, this museum showcases wooden crafts, musical instruments, Berber artifacts, and a beautiful central courtyard.
